Faith (1x12) vs. The Born-Again Identity (7x17)
↳ Parallels
Also I believe that relationships, in fiction as in real life, don’t need to be romantic or sexual to be strong and important in people’s life.

The thing that kills me about this scene is that I feel like somewhere, deep down, Dean has to be wondering when it’s going to stop. He’s wondering how many times Sam is going to get knocked down before he stays down. He’s been pulling Sam out of burning buildings since the kid was born. Because there’s nothing else he could do. Saving Sam is who he is. Sam is who he is, really, and Sam gives back just as much to Dean. They’ve been tripping over themselves to save the world and save each other and Dean knows it can’t last. That if there’s one thing bigger than the pair of them, it’s Death, and he won’t wait forever. So when he looks over at Sam and he’s too far away to save—just like Mary and John and Cas, and a long line of names that he carries around in the back of his mind like penance—I feel like somewhere in Dean’s head there’s a chorus of thoughts repeating like a prayer: Not this time. Not now. Please.

Oh god so much about this breaks my heart. It’s like Dean never got these soft touches, the ones that really mean something, as a kid or just in general from anyone. So whenever he gets them from someone, he automatically leans into them and tries to absorb them as much as he can. You can see the little bit of vulnerability in his face, and how much he needs that. And it’s just.. it’s heartbreaking.
